Today started with sunshine, blue skies and high hopes of a third win, or even a halved game to finish top of the first pool but the reality soon hit home that Wrag Barn from England were going to be tough customers.
Mark and Mikey were off first; Mark had a great tee shot but Mikey hit the water hazard. In the second game Leigh began well with a birdie putt whilst Rory halved the hole. Eddie and Brad ended one down each, not the most promising start.
On the par 4 third there were fantastic birdies for both Rory and Leigh, with both their tee shots landing well and their second shots landing within feet of the hole. Rory's was so close that he hit the pin and landed about a foot away and his opponent gave him the putt.
Mark continued his steady one up and Mikey had recovered to one up by the time they got to the fourth hole. Rory and Leigh both hit the water on the fifth, a very tough hole with a 200 yard carry over two ponds. Its not a hole for the faint hearted..
By the time Turnhouse got to the sixth it looked like it was settling down, Mark, Rory and Eddie were all up with Mikey and Leigh level and Brad was only one down. Fortunes change quickly in golf though, and Rory had some tough shots over the next few holes, went four down and his game ended on the 15th. Mark however won on the sixteenth where Leigh also lost to his opponent 3 and 2. The remaining players then had to win or half to keep the chance alive of ending the game first in the pool. Mikey did this by finishing his game level, however we still needed that elusive point.
On the sixteenth both Brad and Eddie were 2 down with two to play, and unfortunately Eddie lost the 17th leaving Brad to half his game, which he did in style by winning both the 17th with a birdie, and 18th to half the game.
Turnhouse were only half a point short of qualifying to play for 1st and 2nd and will instead play Rochford Hundred, the other English Team tomorrow for either 3rd or 4th place.
All of the boys have done amazingly well over an extremely tough golf course, each round taking on average six and a half hours. Craig was confirmed today as the winner of the Stableford and has won a wedge. Both he and Jack played today in another stableford competition with Craig scoring 36 and Jack 30
